Top Comment: Some stuff is pretty interesting, some is a bit shit. The video they did on CIA base was really interesting, so was the David McBride video
Thoughts on the Youtube Channel Boy Boy?
Main Post:
They seem pretty leftist, however they also slightly creep into tankie ideologies with praising north korea.
Top Comment: The channel is what made me stop watching I did a thing. They have said too much tankie shit for me to brush off

Top Comment: Can we stop bemoaning “biphobia” and take five seconds to acknowledge that it’s ok to be turned off by this? Obviously Cari can be whoever she wants and date whoever she wants. I’m pro queer in all its shades. BUT one of the things I most enjoyed about Cari’s music is that it made me feel so joyously sapphic. Girls Girls Girls, Cherry, hell, every song, made me feel seen and made me feel powerful as a minority in a hetero world. She built her brand on making her sapphic fans feel celebrated. The first time I saw her in concert I was blown away by the experience because it felt like a safe place to celebrate lesbians. And now...Boy. Released during Pride month and while the country is becoming increasingly homophobic every day. It’s ok to say this doesn’t feel good. It’s ok to say this changes the way her music makes me feel. As a fan I believe I do have to give her the space to be herself and I truly hope she’s happy. But also, I’m allowed to say I was a fan because her music makes me feel good, and now it doesn’t. I don’t have to keep supporting her as an act of social service to the Queer/bi community. Turning off her music is not an action that takes away any of her rights. It’s a valid prerogative. And turns out that as an attractive woman dating a man, she’s going to be just fine. You don’t have to “protect her.” This world was made for people in straight relationships. A few angry lesbians on Reddit are not putting her in harms way. It’s gonna be a Renee Rapp/King Princess summer for me though.
Thoughts on ‘The Boy’ movies?
Main Post:
I personally loved the first one and thought it was a great take on the evil doll genre, and then the sequel came out and completely ruined it. I’ve seen someone people say that the first one was also bad, which I just don’t agree with. Does anyone know why the boy 1 and 2 are so drastically different as well? Nothing can be found online about it
Top Comment: I love The Boy! I feel like it doesn't get the hype it deserves. The sequel does not exist as far as im concerned lol. I don't think I know of another sequel that retroactively ruins its predecessor that badly. It was the same writer and director so I have no clue why it turned out the way it did, probably money reasons. I don't think a sequel was even needed, the first movie is great by itself
Boy (2010) by Taika Waititi
Main Post:
Watched this passively on TV the other night, forgot how good the movie is from when I first watched it many years ago.
The lead character, literally called Boy, is an 11 year old living in " on a small farm with his grandmother, younger brother Rocky, and several cousins. Boy spends his time dreaming of Michael Jackson, hanging out with his friends Dallas and Dynasty, trying to impress Chardonnay, a girl at his school, talking to his pet goat, and making up wild stories about his estranged father, Alamein." shameless copy and paste from Wikipedia
About half way through the movie, Boy talks about something quite mundane and his mum then the movie cuts to a silent scene where we're looking through a doorway into a bedroom, all we can see is a younger Boy peering in, a women's limp feet lying on a bed and bedsheets covered in blood while the grandmother rocks back and forth cooing to the new born baby, Rocky. Goddamit Taika, I must have wiped it from my memory years ago and I got flashbacks to Jojo Rabbit.
On a lighter note, Boy spends a few minutes talking about how he'd like to be the Hulk. How prophetic is that?
None of these scenes are on YouTube but I highly recommend watching the movie. It's got Kiwi humour which is offbeat of the rest of us but it's subtly explained enough that most people get it. The similarities between Taika and Wes Anderson's comedic styles... love it
Also do watch Taika's What We Do In the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople!
Top Comment: In case anyone was unaware, this was the highest-grossing New Zealand film at the New Zealand box office, until Taika Waititi broke his own record with Hunt for the Wilderpeople.
What’s your top boy name?
Main Post:
My son is 2 days old and he needs a name still. I feel like I’ve read every name and nothing seems to fit
Top Comment: Could you give us a point of departure? Ethnicity? Sibling names? Names you've rejected? Initial of last name?
Those of you that wanted a boy , why do you prefer boys ?
Main Post:
Dealing with some mild gender disappointment ( please no judgement, I love my baby boy more than life itself) I’m looking for some positive stories between mom and son/ reasons why moms want a son.
Edit: fixed a typo Edit 2: thank you all for your comments! Reading stories of your sweet, cuddly, sensitive boys make me feel so much better. I just pictured all boys to be so rough and wild. Also thank you for the comments that mentioned about dressing up their little boys (as fickle as it sounds, I have dreams of the bows and outfits I would dress up my girl in... so now I’m looking forward to the boy dress up also)
Edit 3: wow I was not expecting this response! Thank you all for your answers, stories and advice.
This all helped me tremendously. I can’t reply to you all because I need to eat /shower and nap (iykyk) but really thank you
Top Comment: I have a boy and a girl. And my son is awesome, I enjoyed sports growing up as does he so we get to bond. My son and daughter are very similar tho since I don’t have the stereotypical girl who plays with dolls and such. But my son is a mommas boy, he looks out for me, notices when I’m sad and tries to make me feel better. Asks for cuddles still (he’s almost 8) but will also prank me by jumping out of corners or throwing crazy shit at me lol. It’s all balance. He does have his trouble dealing with his feelings (mainly anger) but he’s come a long way and tries hard to do better everyday❤️ genders don’t dictate who the kids are as people as much as people want to think they do. My son used to like getting his toes painted with me and still does some things that are considered “girly” all in how they’re raised imo
Are boys easier than girls?
Main Post:
Currently pregnant with first child, a boy, and literally 95% of people we tell told us boys are easier than girls. Is it actually true? I'm just dumbfounded at how everyone is saying this. I obviously have no idea and am still freaking out about being responsible for a human life ...
EDIT: I am now reminded of this great SNL sketch
Top Comment: I have one of each. Both are difficult.

Top Comment: I loved the movie. Reading a bit about Miyazaki’s life is what made it click for me. It was extremely personal. Here are some quotes I found: “Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941, in Tokyo, Japan... born to Katsuji Miyazaki and his wife. Katsuji was a director of the family-owned firm Miyazaki Airplane, which made parts for the famed Zero fighter planes. The influence of his parents would later resonate in Miyazaki's work... His mother was especially influential to Miyazaki. Bedridden for eight years with spinal tuberculosis, she proved a strong and resilient woman. Miyazaki infused parts of his mother's personality in characters...” “Miyazaki was three years old when his family was evacuated to safer districts during World War II (1939–45), and he started school as an evacuee in 1947. His family was not able to move back to their home town until 1950. The wartime bombings and fires in Tokyo left Hayao with few pleasant childhood memories. "I've forgotten much," he told Charles Whipple in his essay, The Power of Positive Inking. "I made up my mind to forget. There were too many things I don't want to remember. For the longest time, they were like thorns in my consciousness. I kept asking myself what it all meant." These events fed into so many themes in the film. Some are portrayed literally. Also, this happened earlier this year... “The iconic Japanese animation company Studio Ghibli, which created internationally beloved films including “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Spirited Away,” has been sold to Nippon TV after failing to find a successor for its legendary co-founder and director Hayao Miyazaki.” He was unsuccessful in trying to find a successor to care for the worlds he has created. ❤️
